Evil Dead

“Everything's gonna be fine? I don't know if you noticed this, but everything's been getting worse…” and it really does continue to get worse and worse, until everything has gone to hell…literally. Fede Alvarez’s Evil Dead, is the next installment in The Evil Dead films that is definitely worth watching. As a fan of the franchise, I was more than pleased to find out that they were releasing the fourth film.

While the earlier films are more funny than scary by today’s standards, they are still classic horror films nevertheless. The innovative techniques of the day allow this film to go down with the greats, especially with its pioneering in the world of splatter film horror. The latest film of the franchise that was released this month captures the gory essence of its predecessors and more. On top of the amazing amount of blood, guts and puke, and other bodily fluids, the films use of body disfigurement adds greatly to the overall horror of this film.

Returning to the dynamic of five friends in the woods fighting to stay alive found in the first film, Evil Dead, focuses on the main character Mia (Jane Levy) and her struggle with drug addiction. Although similar to the first 1982 Evil Dead film where the group of friends just goes off to hang out, the 2013 film consists of friends that are staying in the woods to help Mia kick her drug addiction thus providing not only a reason for the group to be out in the middle of nowhere, but also a logical explanation as to why Mia’s behavior would be ignored; they attribute the strange behavior to her withdrawals.

The new Evil Dead film definitely met my expectations. If you’re a fan of the classic splatter film and love to watch scenes that both make you cringe away while still being engrossed in the scene, then this film is a must see! If you’re anything like me, you will absolutely love the amount of bodily fluids put into this movie and you should go see it as soon as possible. Seriously, go right now, right this minute because if you miss seeing this on the big screen, you will regret it.
