How to Wear Leggings.

Now while we know that the legging as pants trend is definitely popular right now, it is a risk because it is very easy for an intended chic look to go disastrously wrong. I don’t know how many times I have been out and seen a girl sporting a crop top with sheer leggings leaving her shame at home as she bears all to the world. How has no one said anything to her? Well, if we’re being honest that’s an awkward conversation not many people want to have.

Let me start by saying that I am undoubtedly a pro-legging girl because they are both comfortable and versatile but you need to know how to wear them correctly or else you are risking both your modesty and others eyesight. There is an important “do and don’t” list if you plan on wearing leggings:

  • DO: Be aware of the material as it is rare to find a good thick legging that will completely shield everything from roaming eyes, most of the time leggings are very sheer and can be revealing.
  • DON’T: Trust your indoor lighting. Many times what looks good in florescent light does NOT look as good in natural light. So remember to check your outfit in the sunlight because more often than not, those leggings are going to be much more transparent than you thought.

  • DO: Double up if you need to! In regards to the material, if your leggings are sheer (as most are) wearing two pairs at once will conceal your body without being bulky because the material is so light.
  • DON’T: Think doubling up will look weird or be too hot, I personally have done this and it is just the same as wearing one pair only I am not worried about anyone seeing anything because it provides great coverage.

  • DO: Panty Coordination is a must because good, thick leggings are hard to find, and coordinating your panty color to help conceal what you don’t want shown. Wearing skin colored underwear is your best bet as it blends well without revealing too much.

  • DON’T: Wear outrageous undergarments. Remember it is never fun for anyone if you’re wearing a neon orange thong underneath sheer gray leggings, just don’t do it. Ever.

  • DO: Long shirts and flowing tops. The length of your shirt when wearing leggings should at least below your bellybutton, preferably mid thigh. Because leggings aren’t technically pants, they definitely cling in some areas that are not so flattering. Longer shirts will hide these flaws and give you a structured clean look.
  • DON’T: Crop tops and bandos. If you’re not headed to a music festival or a workout session, there is no reason why your leggings should be paired with a short shirt especially if you have regarded the fact that they are sheer as hell. No one admires that girl walking around with her too tight leggings uncomfortably clinging to her lady parts while she parades around in a crop top with her business on display.

Apart from the usual solid colored leggings, I recently purchased a pair of Aztec print leggings that I am in love with. Keeping in mind the tips I mentioned before, I put together an outfit similar to one I wore a few days ago, hopefully this will provide a few ideas for others.
