Chuck Palahniuk had a chance to put out Invisible Monsters the way that he wanted to and if you read the beginning of the Remix, he explains as to why he did it. As a huge fan of Invisible Monsters happens to be one of my favorite as well as my first tattoo, I was very excited to see him put out his original vision. It was not as complicated for me as he had hoped it would be, but maybe the fact that I wrote down which chapters I was hoping to helped. Hoping  you ask? Yes the book starts off on chapter 41, which then skips to chapter one, back to 40 and the back to two.  This was what he had wanted originally but Palahniuk was talked out of doing such a thing, which as us writers now, can haunt as.

              It was the same plot, main character Shannon on her discover of what life is like from being a model to being a woman with only half of a face. Part of the book is of her Brandy Alexander and Seth traveling in and out of the country stealing hormones and other types of pills from rich older women houses that are for sale. This is because Brandy not only doesn’t have the money but per her personality there is a type of thrill she gets from stealing. Our narrator wants nothing more then to drowned this woman in pills so that she is no more, the resentment and hate from her brother and their child hood still plagues her and the want to be accepted by her parents as being an equal is something that is the theme. The expectance she wanted from people while she modeled was only to cover up her pain of never having the love she wanted as a child.

              Palahniuk has always been able to develop strong characters that have many layers to them. The more you peel off the less bad you feel for each of them because they are truly someone you do no want to deal with in the real life. Even early in his first novel it was something that was defiantly a nitch for him. With this reissue not only did he have it in hard back, which the original is not, but he also added in another nine chapters that tell what happened to the character after the “end”. Some of the chapters are written backwards and in italics but that doesn’t deter a fan from wanting to read what it is about. Over all it was a great reissue and I think the way that it is written now adds to the whole notion of how crazy the fashion world is and the emotional state of our lead.
