H.S.- How do you feel about where the music industry is going?

Wayne Static- I think it sucks. Theres this whole generation that thinks music is for free. It something that you can just share, the whole free mentality kills me. I think that it is wrong

H.S.- Do you still stick to  the natural organic way of the studio.

Wayne Static- if your talking about the way we make music, i haven't changed at all. I still used analog. I use pro tools and there are a lot of bands that are going back to it. It does have a more organic feel to it and a better vibe to it. It sounds real real. That trend is defiantly coming back. It just kills me that no one buy cds anymore and they just have these crappy mp3.

H.S.- They are starting to bring back vinyl. In Fullerton there is a shop that sells cassette tapes. There is a small sub culture that is bringing back the old way of music. How do you feel about putting things out on vinyl?

Wayne Static- Its a very very small sub culture. at this point its a novelty. its not like i can put out a vinyl and make money at it. i put the last two static albums on vinyl and we did on 1500 of them and thats it. its not like its coming back or anything.

H.S.- At least there is some sub culture that is holding on to the idea that music should be organic. It's like the whole idea behind fight club if one person can make a difference, if we keep going the way of vinyl and showing people that sound quietly difference as opposed to the crappy mp3 we can bring back the music industry the way that it used to be. Then the idea of writing music again and playing in a garage might come back.

Wayne Static- I love you optimism. its very refreshing. i don't share it. (laughs)

H.S.- I try. I still buy cd's and I own some vinyl. I would prefer a phonograph for my swing jazz and a record player for my Hendrix. It doesn't sound the same on my mp3. I stopped putting my cds on my ipod it doesn't sound the same to me.

Wayne Static- Absolutely.

H.S.- Are there any bands in the new generation that you think are bring back the feeling to music?

Wayne Static- I haven't really been listening to a lot of new stuff that is out there. I still listen to my records from high school. Like Led Zeppelin, the Doors, Journey. I like stuff like that. I think its cool that bands like the Foo Fighters made a big deal about doing analog for their last record. Thats really cool. That would be one band that makes the effort to raise awareness to that.

H.S.- It seems like the older bands are doing that a lot more. I know that Corrosion of Conformity has a side project band and they did the last album in Dave Grohl's studio.

Wayne Static- Yeah, now we need to get back to where kids are actually buying music again. Then maybe everything will get back to be normal again. Right now the record industry is hurting so bad. Some of them are going out of business. They can't afford to market bands properly anymore. The days of the super groups are done. There will never be anymore Metillca's or U2's. The days of any of those bands rising to fame are gone.

H.S.- Yeah I agree.

Wayne Static- The only people that become popular are the Justin Biebers and that kind of bull shit.  As far as rock bands, none of them will be huge again because of the internet.

H.S.- I have a theory that we have reverted back to the 50's with our pop music. The last decade, the 2000's, we had a surge of pop music like we did back in the 50's. Then the 60's with our Bob Dylan's and the Doors. Were at the beginning of a new decade and as of lately we have been having more folk bands come out.  It could change.

Wayne Static- Yeah. I think it would be cool if things could go back to that way. I think it would be cool if I could put out a single every six months instead of having to put out a full album. It would be awesome. Then we have that technology thing fighting us and the whole free music mentality. I don't think that it is possible.

H.S.- I still buy my music I think that it is possible.

Wayne Static- I do too. I like to have cds. I think iTunes is helpful. I think it's cool I use it but I don't download music from it. I like to buy the actually cd. I like to have that physical product in my hand. There is something special about it.

H.S.- It's not just a bout owning the actually cd, sometimes artist like yourself and the Foo Fighters or even Pearl Jam will have stories in the booklets that go with the cd. It makes it a complete story and package. Now a days it's lacking. With the Stones there are hidden message or with the Counting Crows off of August and Everything After, there is a complete song on the cover that has never been recorded.

Wayne Static- There is a lot of work that goes into the artwork. i think anyone that just downloads their music or even buys it they are missing out.

H.S.- I see you haven't done any soundtrack's lately. Are there any projects that you have been looking at lately?

Wayne Static- The movie soundtrack industry is really hurting because of the economy and they really don't spend as much as they used to. They cut a lot of that back and they mainly do it in house now. I am doing something really cool though. I have been collaborating with  Darrel "DMC" from Run DMC. He has a a new record coming out and I worked with him on a few tracks. It's pretty bad ass.

H.S.- That sounds dope as fuck. That's going to be fucking awesome.

Wayne Static- Yeah it's really cool. Its kind of like a live rock band thing with his style of rapping. Its going to be pretty cool.

H.S.- That's very old school. To do different types of music together like metal and rap. It's nice to hear something about going back to the old style rather then that dub step crap everyone is all about right now.  It's very cool.

Wayne Static- Yeah it's bad ass. you'll enjoy it. I can't wait for the world to hear it.

H.S.- Back in the day you did Batman Beyond, is there any cartoons that you would be interested in working with?

Wayne Static- I love all the stuff on Adult Swim. I wish I could be on Aqua Teen, that would be cool.
